How To Improve The Air You Breathe…

You want to be healthy yes? Most people when adopting a healthy lifestyle think about diet and exercise. This is good. A good balanced diet with plenty of natural unprocessed foods can go a long way to keep you healthy and happy.

If you want to be REALLY healthy then there is another thing you should consider…

Air.

Air intake is a largely neglected consideration for most. It shouldn’t be. You need to breath almost constantly in order to survive. You can only live a few minutes without it. Your air is more crucial to your survival than food and water.

It stands to reason that if you can improve the quality of your air, your health will improve. That’s why quitting smoking can greatly benefit your overall health and well-being. The quality of your air intake does count. That’s why it’s important to learn how to improve the air you breathe…

How To Improve The Air You BreathePractical tips

It is not practical for most of us to do a Michael Jackson and sleep in an oxygen tank. However there are things you can do to increase the quality of your air…

Regularly aerate your house

In the mornings I open most of the windows in my house. If it is in the winter I may only do this for a few hours. In the summer they are normally open all day. I even leave my back door open in the summer. I like to make sure that the air in my house stays fresh, and is no older than a day old.

Leave the house every day

Is is important to have some outdoor time every day in order to get some of the really good stuff in your lungs. Some people buy dogs so they have a reason to walk every day. If you don’t like walking, how about a drive in the countryside with the windows down? You could even stop for ten minutes and to stretch your legs and breath in some lovely fresh air.

Move house

I know this isn’t practical, but if you live in a polluted area then you could consider moving to a place where the air is cleaner. The further away from busy roads and factories, the better. Places higher up tend to have the freshest and cleanest air.

Buy an air filter

If moving house isn’t an option, then you could buy an air filter. A good air filter can make a massive difference to the quality of air in your home. I recommend the Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen Reducer. It is cheap to buy, and run. You don’t need to buy new filters. Simply vacuum the permanent filter every now and then to clear it out.

You’ll be surprised how much dirt it pulls from the air. It’s better for dust and debris to be collected in the filter than it is in your lungs. Check out all the positive reviews of the Hamilton Beach True Air Allergen Reducer – you won’t be disappointed.

Reduce your fibres

Most carpets and furniture create a lot of dust in the air. Instead of carpets, try getting wood flooring. It may cost a bit more than carpets initially, but they last a lot longer and you will save cash in the long run. Also leather seating, rather than fabric, gives off hardly any pollutants in your air.

Learn how to breath properly

Breathing slowly and deeply is a healthy way of breathing. Shallow breathers tend to not expel much air, which leaves old stale air in their lungs. A few times a day I consciously breathe slowly and deeply, being mindful to breath out all my old air. This is also great for stress relief and relaxation.

Get some indoor plants

Indoor plants do filter out some pollutants, and will add some extra oxygen to your air during the day. They also look good and help you to feel happier and more relaxed.

Quit smoking

This is a no-brainer really, but I thought I’d better add it to complete this article. Quitting smoking will obviously improve the quality of your air intake. It will also improve the air of those around you. If you must smoke, then at least do it outside. It will help those around you, and you too. Don’t add constant passive smoking to your smoking habit. (I now offer a complete quit smoking hypnotherapy pack. Unlike most systems, it offer support before, during, and after quitting.)

Final thoughts

Now you have some knowledge on How To Improve The Air You Breathe. Whilst I would recommend diet and exercise, I would also recommend that you consider your air intake as part of your overall health regime. Just a few simple tweaks to your lifestyle can have a great effect on the air that you breath.

More Tips for Coping With IBS

Jon Rhodes
UK Clinical Hypnotherapist Jon Rhodes

As we have already discussed, IBS is strongly linked to stress and hypnotherapy is great for reliving this. There are also a few food types to avoid, and some to eat a lot more of…

Avoid (but you need not eliminate)

Dairy products – A high percentage of people with IBS are really lactose intolerant. Either get a test for lactose intolerance from your Doctor, or give up dairy products for a few days and see how it goes.

More Tips for Coping With IBSFatty foods – You know what they are. Fried foods, chocolate, mayonnaise, etc.

Acidic foods – Apples, oranges, vinegar, cider, wine, etc.

Coffee, coffee, coffee! – Sorry coffee lovers, but you could try decaf, or cut down.

Embrace

Fibre – Many people with IBS report vast improvements by increasing fibre in their diets. The non-soluble type, found in bran, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains are best.

Fluid – Generally drink between six and eight glasses of water per day, preferably water.

Alcohol – Didn’t I say avoid it? Yes, but a little of what you fancy does you good. If you must drink, avoid red wine and beer. The complex carbohydrates in beer and the tannin in red wine cause the most distress.

Exercise – Exercise strengthens the body, and hence the bowels. It can also reduce stress, and release endorphins, which help control pain.

Hypnotherapy is great at treating IBS. It helps relax you AND modify your behaviours…

How To Quit Smoking For Good

How To Quit Smoking

How To Quit SmokingHow To Quit Smoking For Good…

There is only one true path on how to quit smoking for good. It is quite simple, and maybe obvious once you hear it…

Most people don’t generally think about it like this, and if they do, they don’t apply it to themselves. Here is the definitive way to quit smoking…

No “wiggle room”

The only real way to quit smoking is to make up your mind ABSOLUTELY that you will not smoke EVER again. If you give yourself even a slight amount of wiggle room, you are likely to fail.

How To Quit Smoking for goodWhat I mean by wiggle room is some qualifications. These might be statements such as

“I will not smoke unless I am really stressed.”

What happens here? A person will find a reason to be “stressed” then WILL smoke. After all they are stressed and so it can’t be helped right? Here’s another…

“I will not smoke for as long as I can.”

This is not committed enough. “As long as I can” is too vague. It could mean only a few hours, or a few days to some people.

“I will gradually quit smoking.”

A person might state that they will cut down and wean themselves off smoking. The less you smoke the better I agree. However this approach rarely leads to a person totally quitting. They still have given themselves permission to smoke, and will find reasons to do so. The reduced smoking usually creeps back up to their usual levels before too long. This approach rarely offers long term benefit.

The only true way how to quit smoking is to say to yourself this…

“From now on I will not smoke at all for any reason, or in any circumstance.”

You have to be unequivocal about it. Give yourself no wiggle room. No room to manoeuvre, because most people will eventually look for these loopholes and attempt to exploit them. It’s human nature. They will find a reason why they “have” to smoke, and will do so. But as you deep down know, no one “has” to smoke…

Set an exact date and time

Quitting smoking is all in your mind. You have to really want to stop smoking and you have to be definite about it. Give yourself an exact date and a time that you are going to be a non smoker and stick to it precisely.

It’s no good saying that you will quit smoking “next month”. When it turns the first of the next month, most people think that they will start “in a few days”. After all there is all month to begin being your campaign as a non smoker. By the end of the month it is usually all forgotten about and the new month rolls on. Then maybe half way through that next month you might think “Oh yes, I was supposed to quit smoking wasn’t I?”, whilst achieving nothing. So to reiterate, pick an exact date and time and stick to it.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can strengthen your resolve, and help you decide in a definite way that you want to quit smoking for good. Hypnotherapy talks to your subconscious mind, the part where all your habits and urges are formed. It helps convince you deep within your subconscious mind that you will quit smoking for good. It gives you that extra edge.

Another great benefit to hypnotherapy is that is sets an exact time for when you become a non smoker. As soon as the session is over, this signals the time that you are a non smoker. At the end of the session you no longer smoke at all for any reason. This helps eliminate inner conflict.

Final thoughts

Whether you decide to use hypnotherapy to help you quit smoking or go it alone, remember that you must be definite. That’s how to quit smoking for good. Pick a specific time and date to quit smoking and stick to it. Tell yourself that you will absolutely not smoke for any reason whatsoever. This will give you real power in your fight to become a non smoker for life.

How To Do Self Hypnosis

How to Do Self HypnosisHere I’ll show you exactly how to do self hypnosis…

Hypnotherapy is NOT the exclusive domain of the hypnotherapist. You can learn how to do self hypnosis.

With practice, you should get better at achieving a trance state.

Here are some tips to help you get you into a hypnotic trance, followed by tips on various therapies…

To get into trance

  1. Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for at least half an hour.
  2. Get yourself comfortable, either seated or led down, it’s your choice.
  3. Close your eyes and take 10 slow deep breaths, saying to yourself the word “relax” on every out breath.
  4. Spend a few minutes focusing on your slow deep breathing. Imagine feeling lighter and lighter with each out breath.
  5. Imagine floating up and seeing the place you are right now from this higher perspective. Take a good look around.
  6. Now imagine floating above the building you are in. Again take a good look around you. Notice how the building and the area around looks from this perspective. Notice familiar landmarks.
  7. You can now float off to anywhere you choose. Float to a pleasant place that will relax you and make you feel happy. Many people choose a beach or a secluded garden, but it’s entirely up to you.
  8. Enjoy yourself!

In itself this is therapeutic. Most people don’t relax enough, and this can create physical and psychological problems.

Just doing a relaxation exercise like this has seen people lose weight, gain confidence, beat addictions, and all sorts of other benefits. However with hypnotherapy you can do more. Here are some tips to help you with specific therapy…

If you are struggling to get into trance, don’t worry. The more you practice, the better you will get. Don’t give up!

Self Hypnosis Therapy

Once you have chilled in your relaxing space for a while, you can add some specific therapy. Whilst I cannot teach you everything about hypnotherapy here, I can give you some solid basics.

With imagination you can adapt these tools to help yourself with almost anything you like…

Weight loss

Imagine yourself at your target weight. Look at yourself in the mirror and picture how you look as clearly as you can.

Imagine life like this. How happy you feel, and peoples’ positive reactions. Maybe it will allow you to do things you wouldn’t do before.

Notice how much more attention you get from the opposite sex. Enjoy this experience as much as you can. This tells your subconscious mind that this is what you want in life. This helps you change your habits to make this a reality.

Quit smoking

Imagine a symbol that represents your habit of smoking. It could be a cigarette, a dark cloud, anything.

Imagine locking this habit into a metal box and throwing the key far out to sea. Now with your imaginary superhuman strength, visualise throwing the box into the air, breaking out of the atmosphere and drift far away into into deep space. Gone forever.

Your smoking habit has gone. Now tell yourself 10 times, with conviction, that you are now a non smoker – say “I am now a non smoker” 10 times – and REALLY mean it!

Gaining confidence

Think of a person you know who is very confident. It could be a friend or a celebrity, or whoever.

Spend some time imagining being them. Imagine various scenarios acting like they would act. This could be at work, with friends, at the supermarket etc.

This helps you take their confidence and apply it to your own behaviour.

General

A good way to help with most issues is through mental rehearsal.

If you want to play better piano, then imagine yourself playing brilliantly. If you wish to land that job, then imagine yourself performing brilliantly at the interview.

This helps programme your subconscious mind for success. Always be positive when using self hypnosis – positive things happen to positive thinking people.

Congratulations – you now know how to do self hypnosis. Enjoy!

If you are initially struggling, then it’s a good idea to experience hypnotherapy with a hypnotherapist, or use a hypnosis audio session. That way you know the mindset you are seeking to achieve…

How Do Subliminal MP3s Work? (Plus FREE Session!)

Jon Rhodes
UK Clinical Hypnotherapist Jon Rhodes

How do subliminal MP3s work? Subliminal MP3s are recordings which contain audible music with subliminal messages hidden behind them. (There is a free subliminal for you to try at the end of this page). What happens is your conscious mind listens to the music, whilst the hidden suggestions are absorbed by your subconscious mind.

How do subliminal MP3s work?

How subliminal mp3s are constructed

Lets start by talking about how subliminal recordings are constructed. Music or other sounds are used to mask over spoken suggestions that are lower in volume. In order to be effective, the suggestions must be recorded at a level that can be heard clearly when the music is removed, but cannot be heard once the music is added. So the louder music How Do Subliminal MP3s Work?covers up the quieter but still audible suggestions.

Your subconscious mind absorbs the subliminal messages without you being consciously aware, and acts on them for permanent behavioural change. The changes can be almost anything, such as improving confidence, reducing appetite or quitting smoking.

Why use hidden messages?

The reason the suggestions are hidden messages is because we want your subconscious mind to absorb them, rather than your conscious. If the conscious mind heard the suggestions then it could filter them out and not pass them on to your subconscious mind. Your critical conscious mind may doubt these suggestions, which will have the effect of blocking them.

For example the conscious mind may filter out the suggestion “I can quit smoking”. You may start thinking “But I tried last year and failed. Maybe I can’t quit smoking”. This is enough to reject the suggestion from being absorbed by your subconscious mind. Bypassing the conscious mind removes the possibility of it from being consciously rejected.

What’s so special about the subconscious mind?

The subconscious mind controls your automatic responses, such as fear responses and your habits and urges. This is nearly always the part that needs help to change. Conscious conversations rarely get fully absorbed by the subconscious mind. The conscious mind often filters them out.

That is why you could talk to someone at length about the dangers of smoking and why they should quit. On a conscious level the person may fully agree and want to quit. However their subconscious mind wants to continue as it has not been passed on this information. Since the subconscious mind controls your urges and habits, it usually gets its way in the end.

This is one big reason why smokers often struggle quitting smoking. Their conscious mind is willing to quit, but their subconscious mind is not. They are literally caught in two minds. Subliminal suggestions helps communicate the message to the subconscious mind, and can quickly help you make permanent changes.

Evolution

Research has indicated that it has been an evolutionary advantage for us to process information in this way. If you hear a predator through the sounds of the wind, rain, birds chirping, then you want this to go straight to your subconscious mind. This will trigger you to react immediately. The conscious mind is too slow. That vital split second can be the difference between life and death.

See what you think

If you’re still wondering ‘how do subliminals MP3s work’, I can help you. Bellow is a short subliminal audio session for you to try. You can listen to it any way you choose. You can listen whilst doing things, or you can sit or lie down and chill with it. The choice is yours! This is a simple session to help you relax.

I am getting LOTS of feedback from people who have transformed their lives with my subliminal audio sessions. So I am rapidly expanding the selection. CLICK HERE to see my collection of FREE subliminal mp3s

The Height of Good Health

A recent study on both tall and short people has discovered that your height can have a major impact on your self-esteem as well as your physical and mental health. The study has shown that short people are more likely to have problems with their physical and mental health than someone of average height. And tall people have their own set of problems too.

These problems could get worse as our current evolutionary pattern dictates that humans are getting taller and taller. Thanks to an increase in food supply in the last hundred years the average height of a woman has grown from 5ft 1in to 5ft 4in while men have grown from 5ft 3in to 5ft 9in.

The Fall of The Tall

If you’re a woman above the height of 5ft 8in or a man above 6ft then you are susceptible to the following conditions:

Cancer

Dr. Mike Weedon has conducted a study that concluded that tall people are more likely to suffer from prostate, bladder and lung cancer. Tall women also have a higher risk of breast cancer, with the chance of contracting breast cancer increasing by seven percent with each additional 5cm of height.

Fight The Height: Eat plenty of foods containing antitoxins such as tomatoes, sprouts, green leafy vegetables, berries and wholegrain.

Poor Posture and Back Problems

Tall people often have poor posture due to stooping when talking to people. They stoop so they are seen as “level” with the person they are talking to. Beds and seating are often inadequate for the needs of tall people and can cause slipped discs due to the body trying to re-adjust itself to the position.

Fight The Height: The best way to combat back problems is with light exercising and stretching focusing on the body’s core. Try taking up yoga or Pilates at a local class.

Your height can have a big impact on your health.Obesity

An increase in height often means an increase in calorie consumption, and if these calories aren’t burnt off with regular exercise, the lbs with start piling on. Obesity can, in turn, lead to problems such as heart disease and diabetes.

Fight The Height: Cut back on the amount of fatty foods you eat and get moving! Just 30 minutes a day is enough so take your dog for a walk, go for a swim or cycle to work. One thing I recommend is whenever you get a call on your cell phone answer it and pace around as you talk. This burns 100 calories in 30 minutes as opposed to the 30 calories you’d burn staying sat down.

Short Order

A woman below 5ft 2in or a man below 5ft 7in is considered to be short. If you fit that profile then you could be susceptible to the following conditions:

Depression

Shorter people tend to lack confidence and self-esteem more than those of average height. This is often because they feel like they are “below” those taller than them.

Fight The Height: Unfortunately you can’t choose to grow a few more inches in adult life but you can buy a pair of high heeled shoes or “lifts”. Lifts fit in the heel of your shoe and can boost your height by up to 2.5 inches.

Stroke

A direct link between a person’s height and their risk of suffering a stroke has been reported. A man under 5ft 3in has twice the likelihood of having a haemorrhagic stroke while a woman under 5ft has a 30% higher chance of suffering a stroke.

Fight The Height: High blood pressure is the highest factor for strokes. If you have high blood pressure you can lower it by eating less salt, quitting smoking, drinking less alcohol and getting regular exercise. Meditation and hypnosis both lower stress levels which is a great help in keeping blood pressure regular.

Low IQ

Research suggests that shorter people earn less than their taller counterparts and this isn’t a height prejudice issue. Tall people actually have higher IQ’s, possibly due to superior nutrition during pregnancy.

Fight The Height: Luckily there are many ways to boost your brain power. Try completing a crossword or sudoku grid once in a while or, in this increasingly computerized age, Nintendo Brain Train might suit you more. Omega3 from oily fish can help increase brain power.

Get Healthy With Chocolate…

Here is a message of comfort to many – chocolate is good for your health!

The more scientists learn about chocolate, the more amazing chocolate seems.

According to recent research, chocolate provides a mental boost by increasing blood flow to the brain. The effect of this is that chocolate is good for improving memory and attention.

Get Healthy With ChocolateChocolate may also be good for the skin. A German study found that women who were given chocolate cocoa every day for a period of three months had skin that was moister and softer, probably as a result of improved blood circulation.

Chocolate may provide protection against heart disease. Researchers have found that dark chocolate consumption reduces hypertension, reduces cholesterol levels, and adds protection against blood clots.

Less surprisingly chocolate makes people ‘feel good’. Many people resort to chocolate when feeling down, which is OK in moderation. Remember the actual problem must be dealt with eventually.

Chocolate is also known to be an aphrodisiac.

Keep it in moderation, but enjoy a little chocolate in your life – your health may depend on it!

A little of what you fancy is good, as long as it is kept in moderation. This is part of sensible eating…

How To Fight Alzheimer’s

Jon Rhodes
UK Clinical Hypnotherapist Jon Rhodes

How To Fight Alzheimer’s…

As you grow older there are a number of health issues which become prevalent. One of the worst, for both the sufferer and family is Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, which is a term that covers a range of degenerate brain disorders.

(Meditation has also been shown to help fight off Alzheimer’s. Click here for a powerful collection of meditation MP3s)

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s includes memory loss, difficulty with communicating and general poor understanding of situations. In the later stages of Alzheimer’s symptoms grow to include incontinence, struggling to walk and losing the ability to eat and drink.

Those with Alzheimer’s lose vital brain chemicals as their brain cells begin to die. Over a varying degree of time the damage to the brain worsens until the sufferer has to be looked after either by a relative or in a nursing home.

How To Fight Alzheimer'sHowever Alzheimer’s is not an inevitability. Even if you have had several members of family suffer from Alzheimer’s you don’t have to worry. Only 1% of Alzheimer’s cases are caused by genes. That means that, in most cases, Alzheimer’s can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle which includes following the 7 steps below.

1. Check Your Homocysteine Levels

Homocysteine is an amino acid which is the primary risk factor in Alzheimer’s as well as strokes and heart attacks. Homocysteine itself is not the problem but it needs vitamin B to convert it into substances the body can use for a healthy brain and immune system. The test may be administered by you local doctor or you can order one online from http://www.diazyme.com/. Anything under 7 is considered a good score, the higher the score the higher the risk of Alzheimer’s. If you score over 15 you have a raised risk of Alzheimer’s

2. Take Vitamin B

By eating a variety of food full of vitamin B you can keep your homocysteine levels low. Foods that contain vitamin B include potatoes, bananas, tuna, beans, turkey and any leafy green vegetable. To supplement this you could also take a multivitamin.

3. Eat Oily Fish or Take Cod Liver Oil

The omega-3 fats found in oily fish can diminish the brain swelling that is associated with Alzheimer’s that harms brain cells. Try and eat two portions of oily fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines, etc) a week and take cod liver oil once a day.

4. Eat “Smart Fats“.

Eggs contain phospholipids which is a “smart fat“. Phospholipids are a major component of all the biological membranes, including the brain.

5. Boost Anti-Oxidants

Another symptom of Alzheimer’s is an increase in free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules which can harm brain cells, they also make it harder for B vitamins to convert homocysteine into useful substances. By eating plenty of fruits and vegetables you can increase your anti-oxidants and neutralise the free radicals.

6. Keep Your Brain Active

Your body is constantly producing new cells, and this includes brain cells. So when you banged your head when you were young and your mother scolded you, saying you’d kill your brain cells, she needn’t have worried too much. By keeping mentally active you can maintain regular brain functions throughout your entire life. Try to do activities such as reading, crosswords, card games, board games and even a night class to keep your mind sharp and focused.

7. Keep Fit

Healthy mind and a healthy body. One’s no good without the other for a full life so try to get regular exercise to reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s. Exercise reduces stress and boosts blood and oxygen flow to the brain. You don’t have to become the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, just 30 minutes a day is all you need. Take your dog for a walk, go for a bike ride, play football with you children. Get active and stay active.

I have created a hypnosis memory session that helps keep your mind sharp and fresh…
